NGOs express confidence in Tun M leading M’sia

KUALA LUMPUR: Nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) have expressed confidence with the political strategy and tenacity of newlyappointed Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in leading the country.

National Peninsular Malay Students Congress (GPMS) information chief Muhammad Adib Anas Md Noor said the greatness of Dr Mahathir's political strategies were undeniable.

“His age of 93 is just a number, he it took him only a few years (before GE14) to get the opposition parties together to strategise and bring down the government which had ruled the country for 61 years.

“Most importantly is how he would change Malaysia for the better,” he told Bernama when contacted.

Adib also gave assurance that the GPMS would move hand in hand with the new government in empowering and improving education for Malay students in the peninsula and would also participate in all programmes and activities promoted by the new government.

Meanwhile, Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCare) chairman Associate Prof Dr. Hafidzi Mohd Noor said he believed that more doors would be opened to all NGOs as the seventh prime minister was approachable, especially when one needs to seek his opinion.

“We always call on him to seek his advice on various issues because we know that Dr Mahathir is firm, especially in matters concerning Muslims and Palestine.

“We also believe in his 22 years of experience and we are happy that he is making a comeback after 15 years to make things right. We welcome and congratulate him for his appointment as the new Prime Minister of Malaysia,” he said.

Dr Mahathir, formerly Malaysia's fourth prime minister, made history last night when he was appointed as Malaysia's seventh prime minister after leading Pakatan Harapan coalition to win a simple majority of 122 parliamentary seats in the country's 14th General Election yesterday to form a new government.
