KUALA LUMPUR: MCA and Gerakan accept the general election results and respects the people's decision. MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai urged all party members to stay united in the current political situation to face the challenge together.

MCA will have a central committee meeting on Friday (May 11), he added.

“We will review the result of GE14 and its implications, set the future direction of MCA and strive to consolidate our structure in order to march forward,” he said.

Liow also thanked the support given by the voters and the hard work of party cadres in GE14.

MCA retained the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat held by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and two state seats.

Meanwhile, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong yesterday graciously accepted his party's defeat in the concluded 14th general election saying the results are historic for Malaysia's democratic journey.

Mah said that despite their disappointment, Gerakan thanked all Malaysians who supported them in the last few years leading up to polling day.

“We also express gratitude and appreciation for the commitment and hard work of our members, compatriots and officers.

“We sincerely hope the country will remain united, peaceful and continue to prosper after the GE14 and onwards,” he said in a statement.

Mah acknowledged that Gerakan faces tougher challenges after GE14, but that they would brace themselves and take it in stride.

“The party leadership will hold a meeting soon to discuss GE14's outcome and our next course of action,” he said.
