Sabah sets four-gold target in Open Athletics Championsh­ip

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah have set a four-gold target in the Malaysia Open Athletics Championsh­ip in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur from May 11-13.

The state squad will comprise of eight seniors led by SEA Games gold medallist Rayzamshah Wan Sofian and 36 junior athletes.

“The combined gold target is for senior and junior...we will try our best,” said Sabah Athletics Associatio­n secretary Francis Shim yesterday.

Shim went on to say that the champions would also be a platform for the junior athletes to win their place in the state squad for the Malaysia Games (Sukma).

“Most of the junior athletes are in the long list of Sukma athletes. They will be gauged on their performanc­e at the Malaysian Open.

“Those who perform well will be considered for inclusion into the team for Sukma Perak (in September),” he added.

Meanwhile, Rayzamshah will be joined in the senior category of the Malaysian Open by Anchois Aron, Mohd Firdaus Kimleh, Arthur Aron, Jonathan Larus, Cyryl Colins Sukim, Azwan Bunjing and female athlete Danah Jaidih.

The rest are male athletes Mohd Shafiee Mukamad, Raymond Yew, Beckham Buing, Maxwell Ak Sumuk, Mirach Han, Darren Richard, Agustinus Petrus, Ian Benedict Gawok, Muhammad Eizlan Dahalan, Desmond Wong, Azhad Kathidin Masile, Mohd Din Norbik, Mohd Azmir Abdul Rahman, Repson Tirip, Alvin Rolland, Muhd Sunic Muslimin, Farell Glen Felix Jurus, Mohd Nur Musyaraaf, Maslan Mosrin, Mohd Arif Farhan, Andre Anura and Mohd Alif Mohd Razi.

The female athletes are Nur Aishah Rofina Aling, Ezla Joanes, Olivia Da Onidian Jainis, Aurelia Ethel, Halimatul Saadiah, Aveyenda Aron, Ikma Syaffiera Duris, Nobeneca Pinalus, Liz Steffanie Mawos, Mazlien Marni Parais, Michelle Cornelius Mosiri, Sharifa Aishah Mohamad, Camelia Jasten and Hiew Yin Yin.
