New govt good for business — Tawau chamber
TAWAU: The Tawau Chinese Chamber Association yesterday expressed confidence that the new government was heading in the right direction and looked forward to a clean, trustworthy and efficient government.
Its president, Chia Seong Fatt, said the new government's economic role will rest on the private sector and had assured that its policies will be pro business.
The people of Malaysia welcomed the new dawn with the establishment of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government which is committed to deliver its pledges in 100 days, Chia said.
He pointed out that measures taken include the formation of the Eminent Economic Council to tackle economic and fiscal issues, which he saw as move to boost the investment fund and public, hence stabilising the share and foreign exchange market.
Initiatives had been taken by setting up the Institutional Reform Committee to rectify policies and structures to ensure a more transparent and accountable government, Chia said.
On the PH government's immediate step to lower GST from six per cent to zero, he hailed the measure for not only reducing the burden of the general public, but also lowering the cost of doing business.
Chia added that abolishing of certain tolls will also be announced soon and that all these actions would also improve the liquidity of the market, hence establishing confidence in the business environment.
