Govt to ensure all people in Sabah have house – Jaujan
SEMPORNA: The government will ensure all the people in Sabah have their own house and enjoy a comfortable life.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong said although it is not a easy task but with the effort of the Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) government and support of people, it could be achieved.
“It is a challenge but with our combined efforts, the plan can be carried out.
“The government will also endeavour to gazette villages which were not done by the previous government to allow the setting up of village-level leadership like the Village Development and Security Committee and village heads,” he said at the breaking of fast with the villagers at Kampung Look Sisarah, Pulau Bum Bum on Thursday.
Jaujan hoped all departments and agencies can cooperate and focus on resolving the squatter problems in order to arrange for proper settlement for squatter areas and villages that have not been gazetted.
He said squatters are scattered all over the state and should be properly arranged to avoid wastage when resettling and gazetting them.
Jaujan said the settlement of squatters is very important as when there were proper houses for them, then they would think about health and work.
He said the arrangement would be done with certain quarters under the ministry and also with the Lands and Surveys Department.
Jaujan said there were many traditional and old villages that had not been gazetted and were in squatter areas and these had been noted by the ministry.
“Traditional villages need to be gazetted to have proper status,” he said.
He said people today wanted improved development such as settlement, housing, garbage and public facilities under the ministry.
Jaujan said after the briefing, he noted that there were many things that needed to be improved in Sabah, especially Semporna which has become a tourism attraction and needed to be given a good physical impression on its road, environment, beauty and the basics.
“The community development will be seen from physical development,” he said, adding his first visit to Semporna was among a series of visits to other districts.
He also asked the people to give the new government time to carry out its responsbility and fulfil promises made in the Warisan manifesto.
“I also would like to thank the people of Sabah and the residents here for giving Warisan the mandate to be the new government.
“We practise democracy, which candidate or party win is not important. What is important is that the people have won,” he said.
Jaujan who is also Local Government and Housing Minister, added that not only Sabahans wanted a change of government but also in Peninsular Malaysia.
As a result, he said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government and Umno not only lost in Sabah but also in Peninsular Malaysia in the 14th general election, allowing Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form the new government.
After a briefing by the Semporna District Council, Jaujan visited Masjid Ar-Rahman, the sites of Pasar Sejahtera Semporna, Tong Talun township, Muslim cemetery and People Housing Project (PPR).
Present were the permanent secretary of Local Government and Housing Ministry, Datuk Ginun Yangus and Semporna district officer Dr Chacho Hj Bulah.
