42 tahfiz centres set up bomba squad

-

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 42 tahfiz centres around the state have set up their ‘Squad Bomba Tahfiz'.

State Fire and Rescue director Nordin Pauzi said this was to ensure the learning centres are not only equipped with fire safety equipment, but also knowledge in fire prevention.

“We have identified 59 tahfiz centres in Sabah and so far, only 42 centres, involving 2,395 students, have registered as squad bomba tahfiz.

“So we are currently waiting for the remaining 17 centres to complete their registrations,” he said during a fire safety campaign in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the City Mosque in Likas yesterday.

Nordin said the squad bomba tahfiz will play an important role in creating awareness among tahfiz students and to help prevent fire in their respective premises.

“The growth of squad bomba tahfiz in Sabah is very impressive and that is why we need to ensure all security level in those premises are in the best condition.

“We are grateful that there has been no fire incident which resulted in any loss of life at any tahfiz in the state, but based on our research, these places are among those with high risk of fire incident,” he said.

Nordin added that the department will continue to visit all tahfiz centres in Sabah to raise awareness and to advise them on structures that are considered unsafe.

“Most of the tahfiz centres in Sabah have undergone renovations while some were former residential and office buildings, and certain structures were considered unsafe or did not meet the safety level set by the Fire and Rescue Department,” he continued.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, Nordin said only 20 percent of its members were granted leave.

“Eighty percent of our men and women will be on duty during the festive celebration.

“This is to ensure we have enough manpower in the event of a fire or any emergency.

“And for those who will balik kampung, do ensure all electric appliances are turned off, your vehicles are in good condition and to drive safely while on the road to prevent any unwanted incident,” he said.
