This means that the scheme will start seven days prior to the first day of Hari Raya Puasa (expected to fall on June 15) and it will continue for the next seven days after that.

“This scheme will be implemented in accordance with the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Regulation Act (AKHAP) 2011,” Uda told reporters when met during his visit to one of the leading supermarkets in Putatan on Friday.

For Sabah, the goods include live chicken, standard chicken, live chicken, eggs (from Grade A to Grade C), local beef, imported beef, imported buffalo meat (from India), red chilli, tomatoes, round cabbage (imported from either Indonesia or China, excluding Beijing), coconut (regulated only at the wholesale level), grated coconut (regulated only at the retail level), small onion (from India), garlic (from China), imported big onions, potatoes (imported from China), Ikan Kembung and Ikan Mabung, Ikan Selayang as well as Ikan Demudok/Sagai/ Cermin/Cupak.

The scheme will be implemented at the production level (for chicken and eggs, wholesale level and retail level in the distribution chain accordingly, to ensure that both the consumers and business can benefit from it.

Uda stressed that businesses are required to sell their items at a price that does not exceed the maximum price scheme and they must place pink-coloured price tags on the regulated items. This is to enable customers to differentiate the regulated items from the non-regulated ones.

Under AKHAP 2011, individuals and companies who fail to comply with the scheme may be fined, imprisoned or served with a compound.

“In the ministry’s efforts to protect the customers, the ministry will be increasing the number of enforcement officers in the selected premises through the ‘omnipresence’ method.
