More Sabah leaders to contest in Umno polls

-

KOTA KINABALU: Three more Wanita Umno leaders from Sabah are offering themselves as candidates for positions in the movement at the federal level, raising the number of candidates from Sabah currently to four.

Wanita Umno Silam head Mizma Appehdullah and Wanita Umno Sabah vice-head Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid have offered to contest for posts in the Wanita Umno Exco line-up while Kota Kinabalu Wanita Umno head Datuk Rosimah Zakaria is offering herself as a candidate for the post of Wanita Umno Malaysia Deputy Permanent Chairman post.

Jainab, who is also Wanita Umno Sepanggar head, said previously, Wanita Umno Malaysia vice-head Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, also from Sabah, had offered herself as a candidate for the post of Pergerakan Wanita Umno Malaysia head after the incumbent, Datuk Seri Shahrizad Abdul Jalil was not defending the post.

“We believe Datuk Azizah and the Wanita Umno division chiefs throughout Sabah would rally together. I believe this can resurface and inject back inspiration in the interest of the religion, race and country.

“I also call on all Wanita Umno Sabah members, especially at the grassroots level, to uphold the struggle and camaraderie in Umno, our sacred party,” he said when chairing the Wanita Umno Sabah meeting and breaking of the fast on Thursday night.

On May 22, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi , who is carrying out the duty of the party president, announced the party elections at the branch level from May 19 to June 10, which would be followed by the election of the wings’ heads (June 23) and Umno Supreme Council election (June 30). – Bernama
