Ting to comply with court order
KUCHING: Businessman Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing has confirmed that he will comply with a court order for him to appear in the Kuala Lumpur High Court on June 29.
“I’ll be there. I haven’t seen the notice but I saw it in the paper. If I am not there, they will arrest me,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.
He was alluding to the warrant of arrest issued by the Kuala Lumpur High Court against him for failing to appear in court on Thursday for his public enquiry hearing. The warrant of arrest, issued under Section 28 of the Insolvency Act 1976, is to secure his attendance in court on June 29.
Ting confirmed that a warrant of arrest has been issued on him by the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
“Yes, the police is arresting me, so be it,” he confirmed in Foochow.
Ting said his lawyer had conveyed that he was busy preparing for the planned multibillion-ringgit development in Langkawi.
Ting termed the issue as “just a small matter” and repeated many times that the news report on this issue was some quarters “wanting to embarrass me”.
He said it was human nature to embarrass others and he stressed that “I don’t blame them”.
He explained that he was so busy with the proposed RM30 billion Langkawi New City Project he could not be present in court as required.
He added that he had written a letter to the High Court in Kuala Lumpur to explain why he was not able to appear on Thursday.
“People just want to embarrass me. I’m not a murderer, I’m not a criminal. I told them that I would come any other day (than June 7),” he said, insisting that he was not running away from the issue.
