Jho Low’s childhood friend urges him to return to assist in 1MDB probe
GEORGE TOWN: A childhood friend of Malaysia’s most wanted businessman Low Taek Jho, or better known as Jho Low, hopes that Low would return to the country to assist in 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) probe.
Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong Khan Lee said it is hard for Low to escape from the authorities as 1MDB is a high profile case, not only in Malaysia but internationally.
“The Interpol has been alerted on the case. If Low is put under the no-fly list it is even harder for him to escape from the probe. So it is better if he could come back to assist in the investigation and see what is the outcome,” said the PKR state rep and lawyer after handing over hampers to Rifle Range flats residents on Saturday (June 9).
Ong said Low was his childhood friend, and they grew up together, but he has not seen Low since 2013.
“As a friend and a lawyer, I would advise him to come back.
“I would also advise him to get the best lawyer. Just like how Anwar (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) told Najib (former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak),” he added.
Ong also urged the public not to jump to conclusions and not to convict Low without prosecution.
“Let him have a say and let the rule of law decide on his fate,” he added.
It was reported that the authorities want to bring back Low, who is at the centre of the debt-laden and scandal-ridden 1MDB that is a thorn in the administration of the previous Barisan Nasional government, to assist in investigations.
