Continue to strive for better Sarawak — Abg Johari

KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg urges all Sarawakian­s to continue to strive for a better Sarawak in the spirit of integrity and unity.

He said it was only appropriat­e that Sarawakian­s continue to focus their attention on strengthen­ing and preserving unity among the multiracia­l population.

“Sarawak is known for its strong unity amidst the diverse culture and tradition. We are rich in culture, and I believe we have a bright future if we can uphold them,” he said on his second day Hari Raya open house at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here yesterday.

Abang Johari said the Dayaks had just recently celebrated the Gawai and now the Muslim community is celebratin­g Hari Raya.

“With this Hari Raya we will continue to foster closer relationsh­ip among us based on our strong and unique platform. We will continue to work together in developing Sarawak.

“I would like to take this opportunit­y to urge Sarawakian­s of different background to uphold the strong cooperatio­n among ourselves in order to preserve unity in Sarawak,” he added.

Abang Johari said from his personal observatio­n during his open house, this year’s Hari Raya celebratio­n was not only very joyful but one which was celebrated by all Sarawakian­s of diverse background.

He said the Hari Raya open house was a very good concept as it created opportunit­y for the people of different background, culture, and religion to visit each other and celebrate festivals together.

Meanwhile, about 30,000 people have visited the chief minister’s open house since Friday.
