KOTA KINABALU: Leading local supermarket chain CKS Supermarket Sdn Bhd on Sunday handed over a large cache of foodstuff and other essentials for distribution to victims of the May 30 flood deluge in Penampang district.

The consignment was formally presented to Jenifer Lasimbang, the assemblywoman for Moyog at her constituency service office in Kampung Kolopis by Rachel Chua, manageress of the CKS Donggongon supermarket.

Rachel who initiated the welfare outreach, said the goods were donated by caring shoppers at the CKS supermarkets in Donggongon, Millennium, Bundusan and Sepanggar.

She said the civic response to the campaign organized as part of the CKS corporate social responsibility was most heartwarming.

Jenifer thanked CKS for its thoughtfulness to help the flood victims in the Penampang district and hoped such charitable spirit would grow as a social culture.

She said foodstuff and daily essentials had been distributed to some 5,000 affected residents in 24 villages with the hardest hit areas being Kambau, Penampang proper and Dabah.

“Our effort is now also geared towards secondary assistance such as replacement of damaged beddings and schooling aids.

“The welfare outreach has also expanded to medical care rendered by a volunteer team of seven doctors and 15 nurses, besides focus on the priority needs of the hardcore poor, elderly and single mother,” she explained.
