Goh still not satisfied with performance

KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles player, Goh Liu Ying is still unhappy with her performance and achievement this season and hopes that partnering Chan Peng Soon will spring a surprise at the 2018 Malaysia Open.

The national pair said they had talked with coach Pang Cheh Chang, to at least improve their performance in the tournament which would begin tomorrow until July 1 at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur Sports City in Bukit Jalil.

“The coach has advised us on our problems, what we have to do to improve our performance. For me, what is most important is to return to our best performance prior to this.

“For the Malaysia Open this time, we do not have any target but I am confident of passing the first challenge and if we are fortunate we will meet our compatriots, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai,” she said after the introduction of the 2018 Super Series Final trophy to be held in Guangzou, China in December.

The pair that just won the US Open last week admitted that they were ready after recovering and adjusting to the jet-lag. Commenting on the possibility that they will meet Soon HuatShevon in the second round, Liu Ying said no matter which pair made it to the quarter-finals, what was certain was that badminton fans would surely be delighted.

“Our chance to the quarterfinals if we are fated to meet another Malaysian pair, is uncertain as we understand each other’s game patterns and techniques.

“So it’s going to be tough and we’re not sure what our chances are going to be like. Certainly, the coach will be satisfied and happy if one of the pairs moves to the next level,” she said.

Meanwhile, national women’s singles player, Goh Jin Wei also did not place any specific target but instead wanted to first focus on one match at a time.

Jin Wei who would meet Taiwan’s Pai Yu Po in the first round acknowledged her satisfaction with the draw and believed she had the opportunity to advance to the next rival.

The young player was now at her best in terms of stamina as well as mental and physical preparedness including being injury-free.
