Strong parental support for MJTA junior programmes
SANDAKAN: The Manoharan Junior Tennis Academy (MJTA) tennis development and training programmes have been receiving strong parental support as their junior players continue to consolidate their successes at numerous tournaments held throughout the state and even further afield.
"We have been able to win greater parental involvement in the planning of blueprints for our development and training programmes," said Taren Sunil Manoharan, the coordinator of MJTA.
He pointed out that because of the very tight schedules that schoolchildren have these days, it is important to sit down with their parents to plan the training schedules and programmes.
"Kids nowadays have to juggle their time between their academic activities and sports. Most of them have to go for tuition, music lessons and a host of other activities. It is therefore absolutely necessary that parents sit down together with our coaches to plan their time for tennis," stressed Taren Sunil.
"It is through such joint discussions that MJTA has been able to come up with training schedules that can accommodate the players' time for tennis lessons without disrupting their studies. I am glad to say that the parents have been very supportive and helpful. We appreciate their input. I believe this is why our players have been consistent in delivering good results at the many tournaments that they have been participating in," he added.
At a recent annual dinner, the MJTA management team, the junior players and their parents as well as coaches and supporters came together to celebrate their string of successes.
"We also presented our players with their individual report cards. These comprehensive report cards were drawn up by our coach and they give a frank assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of each player with recommendations for remedial action where necessary. It is our way to chart and monitor their progress," he added.
MJTA's top juniors have been making headlines by chalking up very good results at many tournaments. Their top players Harish John Sunil Manoharan, Jashnavissri A/P Uigneswaran, Rishegeswaran A/L Uigneswaran, Grace Chan, Johnaton Chan, Maegan Allison Tan, Jonathan Joshua Sunil Manoharan, Sharrvineswaran A/L Uigneswaran and Harith Jay Sunil Manoharan have all been doing well in the Sabah junior tennis circuit.
"The exploits of our players have given MJTA good reason to sustain our efforts to keep the momentum going," concluded Taren Sunil who is also the President of Kelab Tenis Remaja Sandakan (KTRS).
