Man claims trial to causing toddler's death

IPOH: A 32-year-old man pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday, to deliberate­ly dunking a two-year-old girl until she drowned in May last year.

The accused, Mustaqim Ab Wahab, was charged with committing the offence at the DWJ Meru Trade Complex, here on May 24 between 4.00 am and 5.41am.

Mustaqim allegedly submerged Fatini Aleysya Karim’s head in a pail of water until the child lost consciousn­ess.

He was charged under Section 31(1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years or a fine of up to RM50,000 or both, if convicted.

Judge Datuk Julie Lack Abdullah set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and fixed Aug 13 for mention.
