KOTA KINABALU: The popular Kiulu Adventure Challenge (KAC) will return for its fourth edition in Kiulu on December 2.

In disclosing this yesterday, Kiulu Tourism Association (KTA) president Dr. Edmon Guntis said he expected a bigger number of participants for the KAC where the races would start and end at the Mini Dataran Kiulu.

“We hope to get 1,000 participants for the 4th KAC.

“In fact, registration has started on July 1 and hopefully with promotion via the press and social media, we will be able to achieve the target.

“We expect locals, who are likely to make most of the numbers, and international participation for the KAC,” he said while adding there 632 athletes last year when they had initially targetted around 400 entries.

Like last year, the KAC will feature the four race categories, namely the Individual Fun Run (5km), Individual Running (13km), Individual Cycling (30km++) and Team event (46km++).

The Team event will see a team of four athletes to complete all three disciplines (running, cycling and rafting) together in a 46km++ track.

“The Running and Cycling disciplines will feature the Men and Women Open as well as Men and Women Veteran (above 40) races.

“This year there will be a separate race route for Indvidual Running and Individual Cycling which will bring new challenges for the participants.

“The races will be flagged off at 6am,” said race director Auther Kimol.

Cash prizes of RM300, RM250, RM200, RM150 and RM100 plus medals and T-shirt will be waiting the top five winners in the individual events. Fun runs will be given T-shorts and medals.

As for the Team event, the champion will take home RM1,600 followed by RM1,300 and RM1,000 for the second and third placing respectively.

Meanwile, Edmon said a Kiulu Mini Carnival would also take place where traditional games such as tug-of-war, rampanau race and bangkarton to name a few would be in the programme.

There will also be food stalls or for something special, Hyatt Hotel food-truck will also be avaialable on the day.

“These will add to the festive atmosphere as well as providing an opportunity for local and visitors to be involved.

“Last year over 2,000 people enjoyed the event and the number was not inclusive of the participants...so we are expecting more this time around,” Edmon said while acknowledging the supporters and sponsors for the KAC.

The closing date of the KAC is on September 30 and the organiser encouraged those intersted for early registration to get the special early bird fees, on offer until July 31.

For registration purposes and enquiries, whatsapp 017-7698862 (Suzie) or contact KAC organising chairman Mohd Daniel Hamdan (017-8419062), Auther (0138860080) and Event Director for the mini carnival Norita Yapi (012-8130210).
