Pitas church receives RM10,000 donation
PITAS: Persatuan Syarikat Pengurusan Kelab Negeri Sabah donated RM10,000 to Gereja Baptis Pelita Cahaya at Kampung Sungai Eloi, here recently.
The donation is in aid of the church’s numerous projects such as to build a motorised boat for the usage of church members who are mainly underprivileged villagers for fishing purposes and to build proper toilet and kitchen for the church’s kindergarten.
The cheque presentation to Pastor Arlinah Sintung, the current pastor was made by Monica Chang on behalf of Persatuan Syarikat Pengurusan Kelab Negeri Sabah. Also present during the cheque presentation were Mervin Lu and Yap How Nam, representatives from Persatuan Syarikat Pengurusan Kelab Negeri Sabah and chairman of Gereja Baptis Pelita Cahaya, Kasim Sarian. Persatuan Syarikat Pengurusan Kelab Negeri Sabah are also representatives of the sports and recreations clubs in the state.
The founder of Gereja Baptis Pelita Cahaya Pitas was Pastor David Kinuta in 1983, who is also the former president for Gereja Baptis Pelita Cahaya Sabah during the same year. As a non-profit organisation, the church depends on donations from the public and other fund raising activities and awareness.
The church’s new building was built in 2002, funded by Lim Gi Bung and Han Hyeng Suk of Pthe resbyterian Bukahhyun Church, Korea. At the moment, the villagers at Kg Sungai Eloi do not receive any clean water supply and solely depend on water collected from the rain where each house owns at least two to three tanks to collect water from the rain. This is also part of the challenge for the church to continue with the renovation works.
Kasim hopes to be able to finish with all the church projects as soon as possible, especially the boat to help some of the villagers who may need it for fishing as additional source of income for their families.
