Students among 11 arrested for fighting in shopping mall

KUCHING: Eight students were among 11 individual­s, aged between 13 to 31 years, arrested following a brawl due to some misunderst­anding which erupted at a shopping mall at Jalan Pearl here on Saturday.

District police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek said police also seized a knife from one of the suspects during the 4.15pm incident.

“The fight broke out because of misunderst­anding which involved eight female teenagers aged between 13 to 15 years old. Police also arrested three men aged 17 to 31 years old believed to be involved in the incident,” said Ng when contacted yesterday.

He pointed out that all the suspects were detained at the district headquarte­rs for investigat­ion.

According to him, the case will be investigat­ed under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with the use of weapons and Section 506 of same Code for intimidati­on.

Ng urged members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist the police in its investigat­ion.
