SITEC aims for RM10mln GMV through #MYCYBERSALE partnership
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Information Technology & ECommerce Council (SITEC) aims to achieve RM10 million gross merchandise volume (GMV) for the upcoming #MYCYBERSALE, in collaboration with the National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom).
The #MYCYBERSALE will be held from September 3 to 7, 2018.
According to its press statement, SITEC has been involved in a supportive and participatory role for the #MYCYBERSALE initiative since 2016. From 2016 to 2017, 300 SITEC Online 100 e-merchants achieved a GMV of RM7.3 million, facilitated by SITEC, with 10 per cent participation in the #MYCYBERSALE that year. This year, SITEC aims to bring onboard another 100 merchants, and achieve a GMV of RM10 million.
“MYCYBERSALE has been a stalwart in the e-Commerce scene when the industry was still in its infancy. It is clear that e-commerce is booming now, and enablers such as Pikom and MDEC with their multiple initiatives have contributed tremendously towards its growth.
“The Digital Economy is the way forward - in 2016, it contributed 6.1 per cent to the national GDP, or RM74.6 billion.
“We also are seeing increased participation by merchants and consumers online, with further interest by the public and growth in this sector. This heralds positive signs of economic and social progress in the nation, in line with the government’s aim of getting SMEs in the digital economy to push that share up to 41 per cent of the national GDP in 2020.
“We are more than happy to continue supporting this endeavour that not just promotes the uptake of e-commerce, but of the spirit of entrepreneurship and business locally,” said SITEC chief executive Yong Kai Ping, at a recent #MYCYBERSALES briefing session held at SITEC stronghold Selangor Digital Creative Centre (SDCC) in i-City, Shah Alam.
Overall, it hoped to support and assist Pikom in its aim to reach a GMV of RM370 million and RM50 million in export revenue through #MYCYBERSALE.
