Team KK emerge boxing champion
KOTA KINABALU: Team Kota Kinabalu emerged as champion in the West Coast Zone Sabah Amateur Boxing Association President Datuk Orlando Harumal Cup Tournament.
The City squad bagged two gold, one silver and one bronze medals to dethrone defending champions Tuaran, who won two gold and a silver at the Luyang multi-purpose hall near here yesterday.
Papar, with one gold and two silver, were third, followed by fourth placed Kota Belud with one gold and a silver, while Ranau were fifth with a single silver.
Kota Kinabalu coach, Adzlin Ganis, when met after the prize presentation, said the boxers were all new faces, thus making it a memorable win.
“They underwent one month training for the tournament,” said Adzlin, who added that it was their third title for the tournament.
The gold for Kota Kinabalu were from Barandon Yapp in the 60 kg division and Irwandi Jusori in the 64 kg division.
Similar tournaments were also held in other zones pitting districts under East Coast and Interior.
