Don’t be choosy, Sabah has over 100,000 unemployment rating

-

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal advised the people to not be too picky when looking for jobs in Sabah that has an over 100,000 unemployment rating.

“I hope the existing workforce would not be choosy between hard or easy work. As long as it is safe, and it has the (job) space, opportunity, salary so we will get and be able to fill our daily needs,” he said at the Sabah Labour Department’s Jobfair 5.0 Carnival at a mall here yesterday.

Shafie ensured that the state government is doing its best in using Sabah’s natural resources to enrich the people in the state.

He reiterated that the government will also make strategic plannings such as granting scholarships to students taking up courses that are relevant for the current market and industry.

“It is important for us to reorganize instead of sponsoring scholarships provided by the government so that our children learn in the areas that needed in the market. This we will adjust. A very comprehensive approach to ensure that we are sponsoring the young based on what is required for the market,” said Shafie.

He said such strategies will ensure job security after graduation and decrease in the unemployment rate.

In addition, he said talks are already underway for IKEA, a Swedish company that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories, to plant its footings and create more job opportunities in Sabah.

Some 2,000 jobs from various sectors were offered at the oneday Jobfair 5.0 here yesterday.
