LPD urges people to support new govt

-

TENOM: The people should support and cooperate with the new government to ensure that the country’s economy could recover in the next one to two years, urged Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) acting president Datuk Chin Su Phin.

Chin said the people have grown weary of Umno for stoking disunity by playing up racial sentiments, even during Parliament sittings.

“The people are more concerned about the economic development and future of our country.

“I believe even if the Pakatan Harapan (PH) or the State Government led by Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) have failed to perform, the rakyat would not want to return to the corrupted, power-abusing government.”

He said this when officiating at the joint conference of LDP Melalap, Liawan and Tambunan divisions here yesterday.

As the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, Chin pointed out that the new government was facing a lot of challenges, including the RM16 billion of outstanding tax refunds not returned by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) refund shortfall of over RM19 billion.

“These are the damages left behind by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government,” he said, adding that the new government also had to work with uncooperative government officers.

“We ought to support and cooperate with the new government so that the country’s economy could recover in the next one to two years.”

He pointed out that it was an uphill task for the new administration to rectify the flawed policies of the previous government.

Nonetheless, Chin said LDP was confident that Malaysia, under the leadership of Dr Mahathir, would have a transparent and corruption-free government.

“This is the change that the people want.”

Meanwhile, he said LDP would continue to play its role as a responsible opposition party.

“We will continue to serve the people, and to play our role as checks and balances on the government.”
