Ministry will ensure SST implementation runs smoothly

KULIM: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will coordinate with several ministries to ensure the implementation of the Sales and Services Tax (SST) runs smoothly.

Its minister Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the coordination would be carried out by KPDNHEP in collaboration with the Finance Ministry as well as the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKM).

"The SST Act is under the Finance Ministry and this ministry will determine which goods to be imposed taxes while the KKM is involved in telco services such as mobile phone prepaid added value cards,” he said.

He told reporters this after attending the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) charity programme at Kampung Tengah Relau, Bandar Baharu here yesterday.

Also present were KPDNHEP secretary-general Datuk Sri Jamil Salleh, SSM chief executive officer Datuk Zahrah Abd Wahab and state Indian Community Affairs, Unity, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman R. Summugam.

Meanwhile Saifuddin said his ministry understood the constrains concerning some traders who had insufficient information on the SST implementation, causing them not to realise they had committed an offence.

He said the traders were advised to refer to the Customs Department website on the list of goods and services imposed with SST. - Bernama
