RC A come out on top in Inter-Church Basketball C’ship

KOTA KINABALU: Roman Catholic A (RC A) clinched the Boy’s Division A title at the 5th UGKK Inter-Church Basketball Championsh­ip that ended at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex multi-purpose hall in Likas near here on Saturday.

RC A registered a hard-earned 67-60 final win against Anglican A to emerge as champions.

Basel Christian Churches of Malaysia, Sabah (BCCM) B finished third after beating BCCM A 53-45.

Earlier, Glory Christian Centre (GCC) and KK Bread of Life (KKBOL) won the Boy’s Division B and Girls’ titles respective­ly.

GCC claimed a 42-34 final win over Anglican B while Petrus City Church (PCC) came third following their 47-40 victory over 611 Holy Seal.

As for KKBOL, they registered a comfortabl­e 59-31 win over GCC in the girls’ title match while BCCM were third after a 46-23 win over RC.

Meanwhile, the winners of the individual award of Most Valuable Player for each division were RC A’s Daniel Wong (Division A), GCC’s Lee Ka Lik (Division B) as well as KKBOL duo Lydia Chin and Lau Wei Ying (Girls’ category).

The KKBOL boys’ team won the Fair Play Award.

Organised by Under God Kota Kinabalu, the tournament attracted 18 teams (14 boys’ and four girls’) and also featured exhibition matches which involved invitation­al internatio­nal teams Homies of Taiwan and Beruan Blazer of Brunei alongside locals Marlins X I-World and UGBC Retro.

Youth and Sports Minister Frankie Poon presented the prizes to the winners.

Among those present were Sabah Sports Board chairman Datuk Louis Rampas and general manager Datuk Penyuki Matta, Sabah Basketball Associatio­n president Phan Chee Yong, UGBC president Allen Chung, vice president Iverson Wong, organising chairman Allan Siow and Putatan District Basketball Associatio­n president Tai Ket Hau.
