KOTA KINABALU: A workshop worker was jailed for three months and fined RM5,000, in default, three months’ imprisonment by the Traffic Court here yesterday for doing a wheelie while riding a motorcycle along Jalan Lintas.

Magistrate Afiq Agoes imposed the sentence on Mohd Sukri Jerin, 27, after the latter pleaded guilty to riding the motorcycle inconsiderately which could cause harm to the public at the said road at 1.30am on July 26, 2015.

The unrepresented accused was convicted under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a jail term of up to five years and a maximum fine of RM15,000, upon conviction.

While approaching the group, the motorcyclists, who noticed the presence of the police, fled the scene on their motorcycles.

Not long after that, one of the motorcyclists, who was the accused, made a wheelie stunt but unfortunately when the accused reached a nearby roundabout, the motorcycle skidded and the accused suffered minor injuries.

The police team then went to the scene and arrested the accused, who was then brought to a police station for further investigation.

In a separate case, a woman was fined RM2,000, in default, two months’ jail by the same court for driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
