Eight drug addicts among 15 detained

LAHAD DATU: A total of 15 individual­s including eight drug addicts were detained during Ops Sarang Bersepadu launched by the district police at four different villages here, on Sunday.

District police chief ACP Nasri Mansor during a press conference at the Lahad Datu police headquarte­rs yesterday said during the operation at Kampung Membatu, the team nabbed a 33year-old foreigner for possessing 51.05 grams of drug believed to be syabu (methamphet­amine).

The man, who was nabbed from an unnumbered house at the village, also tested positive for drug abuse.

Nasri said the team also seized a transparen­t packet containing 1.54 grams of substance believed to be syabu and various tools used in drug abuse activities as well as cash of RM150.

The drugs seized from the suspect were estimated to be worth about RM3,600. The suspect is currently being remanded for further investigat­ion under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a)of Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

“During the operation, the team also nabbed a 40-year-old woman from the Philippine­s from an unnumbered house at Kampung Ubi for possessing 35.72 grams of syabu.

“The drug was kept inside two transparen­t plastics inside her bag. The suspect tried to escape during the operation but was detained by the team,” he said, adding that the woman was currently being remanded for investigat­ion under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

Meanwhile, Nasri said a 26year-old local man was nabbed during an operation at Kampung Silabukan for having 5.57 grams of syabu. The suspect was also tested positive for drug abuse.

He was investigat­ed under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

He said during the operation, eight men aged between 17 and 37 including two local men were nabbed for taking drugs. They were detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

“During the operation, the team also nabbed 11 individual­s, comprising seven men and four women aged between five and 60 under Section 6(1)(c) of Immigratio­n Act for not having documents,” he added.
