Five sporting events at Kapayan Carnival

-

KOTA KINABALU: Youths in the Kapayan area are invited to join the Sports Carnival organised by DUN N19 Kapayan.

The one day event, which will be held on November 25 at the Penampang Sports Complex, is organised by the DUN N19 Kapayan office.

Event spokesman, Cyril Liew said the objective of the event was to unite youths in the Kapayan constituency and to encourage them to lead a healthy lifestyle.

“The sports carnival will feature five sports, namely nine-a-side football, basketball, volley ball, tugof-war and table tennis.

“There will also be a Zumba session and various attractions such as food trucks and food stalls for everyone to enjoy,” he said yesterday.

The organisers are targeting 20 teams for football, which will feature an open category as well as for Kapayan youths only.

Basketball will feature a three-on-three format, while table tennis will have the men’s and women’s singles events.

Volleyball and tug-of-war will also be open to men’s and women’s entries.

Only trophies and medals will be presented to winners but there will be attractive lucky draw prizes up for grabs.

Meanwhile, Cyril hoped that youths in Kapayan would turn up in numbers to support the event.

“We realise that there are no activities for youths in Kapayan and so we are organising this sports carnival especially for them.

“We hope to receive strong support from them and we anticipate some 500 youths will be involved,” said Cyril.

Assistant Minister of Law-cum-Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang will officiate at the launching of the event on November 25.
