Michelle Yeoh, Ivanhoe Pix to work on 1MDB exposé film

-

LOS ANGELES: Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and Ivanhoe Pictures have teamed up to make a movie on the exposé of the 1MDB scandal.

Ivanhoe Pictures was the company that co-financed and co-produced Warner Bros’ “Crazy Rich Asians”. Yeoh had starred in “Crazy Rich Asians”.

It has obtained the film rights to the recently released nonfiction exposé Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World.

Written by Wall Street Journal reporters Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, the book focuses on Jho Low, the alleged mastermind involved in 1MDB money-laundering scandal and details the secret nexus of elite wealth, banking, Hollywood, and politics.

Now under investigation by authorities in Malaysia, Singapore, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the US Department of Justice, the theft — estimated at US$5 billion — ranks among the biggest cases of fraud in history. Low remains an international fugitive. It has been reported that he is hiding in China.

For Yeoh, it’s going to be a very busy year.

She is also slated to co-star with Awkwafina in an interdimensional action film.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” is the movie, and it is to be directed by the duo of Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Better known as The Daniels, the filmmakers were behind the Sundance standout “Swiss Army Man”, the surrealist dramedy that saw Daniel Radcliffe play a flatulent corpse.

Awkwafina, who also appeared in this summer’s “Ocean’s 8”, will star opposite Emma Roberts in sci-fi thriller “Paradise Hills”.
