New radiology building at Sandakan hospital
SANDAKAN: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal is expected to launch a new radiology building at Hospital Duchess of Kent (DOKH) here on October 8.
Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Stephen Wong Tien Fatt said the new radiology building would see four new machines for the hospital patients, including a CT Scan worth RM1.5 million, a Mammography worth RM1.3 million, a Fluoroscopy worth RM1.8 million and an Ultrasonography worth RM185,000.
“The new building will see four new utilities worth a total of RM4.77 million. This is a great change to the health sector in Sandakan as before this, some patients who needed to utilize these machines would be sent to other hospitals in Kota Kinabalu, or Kuala Lumpur.
“We always listen to the locals complaining that DOKH lacked medical equipment. We hope this will be a great help to the people of Sandakan. Of course, there are still a lot to be improved upon but this is a good start and we are trying our best to solve all problems relating to health care in Sabah,” he said.
Wong said problems, including repairs of old buildings and lack of parking spaces in hospitals (in Sabah, needed to be solved) and were waiting for allocations from the state and federal governments.
“To repair old buildings at DOKH, I have requested for funds from the state and federal governments; for parking in five major hospitals in Sabah, we hope to get the allocation and solve the problem during the duration of the 11th Malaysia Plan,” he said.
Wong said this at a press conference held at the Sandakan Parliament Member office at Bandar Letat here yesterday.
He ended the conference by thanking the Chief Minister for the new radiology building at DOKH which will be launched this Monday.
