CM offers condolences as late fireman's family receives pension
TAWAU: Sri Tanjong Community Development Leader Koo Hung Eow yesterday conveyed Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Haji Apdal's heartfelt condolences while presenting pension to the family of late fireman, Mazlan Omarbaki, 25, who died on duty on Wednesday.
Koo was representing State Assistant Minister Jimmy Wong Sze Phin due to the latter's busy working schedule. The pension was presented to Mazlan's mother, Asmah Abdalis, 55, at her residence in Kampung Tinagat here.
Asmah had expressed her gratitude to the state government for the concern and sympathy. She also felt sad as she shared a little about the life of her son as a firefighter with Koo and his team during the visit yesterday.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister cum the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Christina Liew also expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family.
The Tawau Member of Parliament said that they were ready to help the family if they need any assistance. Christina also apologised for not being able to attend the burial ceremony on Thursday night due to her busy working schedule.
She was represented by her Chief Communication Officer cum Apas Community Development Leader Fung Thin Yein, who paid a visit to Mazlan's family at their residence in Kg Tinagat here on Thursday.
Asmah had thanked Christina and Fung for their concern. Mazlan, a bachelor, was the fourth among six siblings in the family and had served as a firefighter for five years.
His body had arrived in Tawau airport at about 5.30 pm on Thursday and was brought to the family home first at 6.15 pm by Tawau firefighters before the burial at Batu Payung Tinagat Islam Cemetery here.
Mazlan was one of six members of the Fire and Rescue Dive Team who were killed during a SAR operation to locate a 17-year-old teenager who was feared drowned after falling into a mining pond in Taman Putra Perdana, Puchong on Wednesday.
