Decomposing naked new born baby found floating in pond

-

KOTA KINABALU: What looked like a baby doll floating in an abandoned pond in Kampung Binsuluk Membakut turned out to be the decomposing body of a new born baby boy.

Beaufort District Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak said the gruesome find was made by a villager, Ag Madun Estor who was driving past the pond on Saturday afternoon.

The abandoned pond, an isolated area overgrown with grass and is at the dead end of the road leading towards Ag Madun’s house, is located next to his house.

Azmir said Ag Madun was driving home from grocery shopping at about noon on Saturday and as he was passing by the pond, he saw what looked like a baby doll floating in the water.

As Azmir was curious, he stopped his car and went to the pond’s bank to investigate and to his shock, it was not a doll but the body of a decomposing naked baby.

He immediately called a neighbour for help to report the find to the police, said Azmir, adding that after retrieving the body from the pond, the investigating team found that it was a full term baby boy which still had its umbilical cord intact.

“The baby’s remains were taken to the Kuala Penyu district hospital and will be sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Forensics Department on Monday, Oct 8 for a post-mortem,” he said.

Azmir urged anyone who might have information about the case to contact the investigating officer Inspector Ghazali Kasmani at 01120601567.

In SERI KEMBANGAN, a baby boy was found early yesterday morning with injuries, believed to be from dog bites, near a convenience store in Jalan PSK1.

He added that the baby has been sent to the Serdang Hospital and placed in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and is now in stable condition.
