Invites for Run For Ma-Zhong 2018

KOTA KINABALU: Avid runners are invited to take part in the Run For Ma-Zhong 2018 next month.

The run, organised by the Ma-Zhong Friendship Associatio­n with the support from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, will be held on Nov 25 at the Likas Sports Complex here. Flagging off of participan­ts is at 6.30am.

According to the event’s organising chairman, Tie Sing Leong, apart from raising fund for the associatio­n’s activities, the 5km run also aims at promoting interactio­n and bonding amongst participan­ts, who come from different background.

“We also hope to promote teamwork, instill trust and respect for one another and educate the people about the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative to the people,” he said.

He added that a payment of RM65 is charged per person, while those who register in a group of five will each pay RM55. T-shirts will be given to registered participan­t.

“A medal will be given to those who completed the run,” said Tie, adding registrati­on will be closed on Nov 4.

The associatio­n’s president, Dr Oh Ei Sun, said that the run was also organised to commemorat­e Malaysia and China’s 44 years of partnershi­p.

He explained that under the Belt and Road Initiative, or BRI in short, China is committed to energise the global economy via projects spanning 65 countries by building massive infrastruc­ture revolving around transport and energy. And Malaysia is one of the BRI partners, looking forward to more trade and investment­s with other BRI partner countries.

“We hope that through this run, we will be able to promote closer ties not only amongst the participan­ts, but also the people in Malaysia and China,” he said.
