KOTA KINABALU: State Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung has lauded Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu’s effort in spreading awareness on the importance of bone health.

To promote the initiative, Gleneagles held its inaugural Break Free: Health Talk & Challenge at Central Plaza, Riverson on Saturday.

“I was told that the theme of this event is joint and musculoskeletal wellness and it is championed by Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu’s prominent orthopaedic specialists.

“Through events such as this, I hope that the community will better understand the prevention, management and treatment of bone-related conditions,” Frankie said in his speech read by Public Relations Officer Ku Nyet Fan.

“The health talk and challenge concept is an interesting way of incorporating healthy lifestyles into the trend of healthy living these days.

“It is essential to maintain bone health throughout our life time. We need to start paying attention before we start to suffer from pain and injuries,” he added.

As a minister responsible for the development of sports in the state, Frankie had strongly welcomed such events that indirectly relate to those who practice sports activities.

“Inevitably, our bones play an important role in our daily activities especially in sporting activities. Thus, we are always encouraged to protect our bones from injuries,” he explained.

Also present in the event was Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu chief executive officer Noel Cheah.

“It is common knowledge that nutrition and exercise are essential in maintaining bone health throughout our lifetime, but most of us do not start paying attention until we suffer a fracture,” Noel said.

Themed on joint and musculoskeletal wellness, the event saw participants take on an obstacle course designed in line with the series of talks presented by the hospital’s orthopedic specialist.
