Silver Trouble crowned champs

Former world number one ranked bowler Safuan Said-led Silver Trouble emerged as the champions in the Sabah Open 2018 Open Pairs Lawn Bowls Tournament which ended in Likas yesterday.

KOTA KINABALU: Former world number one ranked bowler Safuan Said-led Silver Trouble emerged as the champions in the Sabah Open 2018 Open Pairs Lawn Bowls Tournament which ended in Likas near here yesterday.

Safuan, who teamed up with Muhammad Fitri Hashim, were a class above against their opponents MPK Klang B featuring Saiful Samdin and Mohd Azwan Shuhaimi in the Cup final played at the Likas Lawn Bowls Centre.

Safuan and Fitri of Perak registered a 16-9 victory with two Ends to spare to collect RM3,000 in prize money as well as trophies.

Saiful and Azwan settled for RM2,000 and trophies.

In the semifinals, Silver Trouble downed home favourites Solib B comprising Farah Jali and Hafiz Firdaus Affendy 17-9 while MPK Klang B edged the Sandakanba­sed STAR pairing of Faiz Ishak and Saadan Alak 21-7.

Solid B and STAR bagged RM1,000 plus trophies as the joint third place winners in the Sabah Lawn Bowls Associatio­n (Bowls Sabah)-organised tourmament.

The joint fifth to eighth placing in the Cup category were Brunei’s Jack High (Pengeran Mohd Salleh Chu Chu/Abd Rahman Omar), Poli KK (Abdul Khan Majal/ Eric Yeo), Poli Malaysia (Mohd Sharil Aaliff Hashimahro­p/Mohd Shaffik Abdul Murah) and D’Line Tiger (Lakeri @ Lawrence Eging/ Supian Buang).

The teams each won RM500 respective­ly.

In the Plate section, Hassan Jinnin and Zainuddin Che Mat of Labuan X defeated Black Bowls A comprising Nisah Ubin and Roslan Abd Rahman 14-9 in the final.

Labuan X and Black Bowls A had beaten Rembat (Rahman Mohammad/Hamzah Hj Ahmad) 19-5 and Solid A (Afif Aiman Affendy/Affendy Tan Abdullah) 17-8 respective­ly in the semifinals.

The Plate section winners won RM500, followed by the runner-up with RM400 and the joint third placing with RM300 each.

Forty-six teams took part in the tournament, including seven from Brunei, five from Labuan, two from Selangor and one each from Sarawak, Perak and Kuala Lumpur as well as local teams.

Bowls Sabah president Datuk Ladislaus Maluda presented the prizes to the winners while his deputy cum tournament director Shuib Hashim was also present.
