The Borneo Post tops print, portal category at CIDB media awards
KUCHING: The Borneo Post bagged the first prize in the print media and news portal category during the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Media Awards 2018 held here Saturday.
Journalist Rachel Lau Ker Qing took home a cash prize of RM5,000, trophy and certificate for her article ‘China’s Belt & Road: What’s in it for Malaysia?’, while Mohd Latif Ahmad and Mohd Amirul Faiz, both of Berita Harian, placed second and third, respectively.
Lau also won the first prize in last year’s event.
Held in conjunction with the Works Ministry’s media appreciation dinner, the event was attended by more than 100 journalists and photographers from across Sarawak.
The awards were divided into three categories, namely print media and news portal, television broadcast and online video, and photography, covering topics based on the construction development in Sarawak such as power generation, Pan Borneo Highway and Bakun Hydroelectric Dam.
CIDB Malaysia chief executive Dato Ir Ahmad Asri Abdul Hamid in his speech said the event was organised to recognise the media’s contribution and role towards the construction industry as well as the Construction Industry Transformation Programme (CITP) 2016-2020 initiative by the federal government.
Works Minister Baru Bian, who officiated at the cowboythemed event, highlighted the role played by the media in disseminating news to the public.
“The media continues to play an important role in conveying the government’s messages to the public. My ministry will continue to listen to public feedback through the media platform,” he said.
Baru also urged members of the media to publish more articles on the modernisation of the country’s infrastructure, including the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway.
In the television broadcast and online video category, RTM Sibu won first prize while TV3 Sarawak secured both second and third.
The photography category was won by The Star and Bernama, who placed first and second respectively, while the third prize was not awarded.
Deputy Works Minister Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir and the ministry’s secretary-general Dato Sri Zohari Akob also attended the event.
