Tawau Open Snooker Tourney kicks off with 60 players
TAWAU: The Youth and Sports Ministry yesterday congratulated the Tawau Recreation Club (TRC) for successfully organising the TRC 6th Tawau Open Snooker Tournament (Datuk Lu Chu Kwong Challenge Trophy) 2018.
Its minister Frankie Phoon congratulated the TRC for continuing the tournament and, on behalf of his ministry, acknowledged the TRC for hosting the tournament and bringing in cue sports from various states and towns.
“I believe this is a good platform to encourage the younger generation to engage in sports activities, especially cue sports,” he said in a speech read by his public relation secretary, Ku Nyet Fan, when launching the tournament which will be going on from October 20 to 28.
He also expressed special appreciation to Datuk Lu Chu Kwong, who was the main supporter as well as the main sponsor of the tournament
Furthermore, Phoon praised the club president, William Cheang, the general committee, organising committee, club members and management and staff for lending a helping hand in making the tournament a success.
He also welcomed players from other towns and wished them the best and to have a good time, pleasant stay and happy snookering.
The tournament attracted 60 snooker players from all over Sabah, including defending champion ex-national player Sheldon Senagang who will be vying for the top prize for the championship worth RM3,000 and a trophy.
