Man leaps to his death from 9th floor of Tawau hotel
TAWAU: A 58-year-old man is believed to have committed suicide by jumping from the 9th floor of a hotel here early yesterday morning.
Tawau police chief, ACP Fadil Marsus, said, the incident took place at about 5 am and was reported by the manager of the hotel concerned.
According to Fadil, the deceased was a guest of the hotel, who checked in at about 4.53 am.
Less than 10 minutes later, at about 5 am, a hotel worker heard a sound outside and found a man’s body lying on the road behind the hotel.
Fadil said it is believed the deceased had committed suicide as the hotel’s window was broken. He said the deceased’s next of kin has identified the man who is said to be suffering from mental illness and hypertension.
The victim, who never married, was treated for mental problem in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
