Man caught less than 24 hours after stealing laptop

KOTA KINABALU: A man was arrested by police in less than 24 hours after breaking into a bank and stealing a laptop on Wednesday.

City police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the 43-year-old suspect was nabbed in less then 24 hours after the latter broke into Agrobank at Jalan Gaya around 2 am on October 24.

“Following a police report lodged by the bank security guard and an investigat­ion, a team of CID police apprehende­d the suspect in front of a gas station in Kampung Air around 10.45 pm the same day.

“Upon his arrest and interrogat­ion, the suspect then led police to Asia City where the stolen item was kept,” said Habibi.

Police recovered the stolen laptop and also seized several items from the suspect.

The suspect has been remanded to be investigat­ed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreak­ing, which carries a jail term of up to five years and a fine upon conviction.
