TRC Snooker Tourney commence quarter-finals

TAWAU: The Tawau Recreation Club (TRC) Tawau Open Snooker Tournament’s quarter-finals will be played at 11am and 2.30pm and semi-finals at 7.30pm today.

Playing in the first matches at 11am are defending champion Sheldon Senagang against Sabah Closed 2011 champion Cassey Lim/Rasid M. @ Samy and 2016 runner-up Patrick Ng against Muhammad Fenddy.

In the second matches at 2.30pm, Khor Soon Mun will face either Kairil Izwan/Chok Teck Leong (results not available at press time) and Nealson Low will meet either Ariffudin Changi/Loo Yew Keat (results not available at press time).

In the last 16 results yesterday, Sheldon defeated Desmond Pan 69-33, 64-25, 56-34, Patrick beat How Chai Seng 69-28, 73-8, 2253, 73-37, Khor beat Kong Sing Yew 49-58, 42-71, 67-9, 72-70, 6340, Nealson beat Perkins 63-16, 33-62, 23-64, 69-21, 69-28, Cassey Lim beat Rasid M. @ Samy 4821, 57-36, 54-24, and Muhammad Fenddy beat Larry Hiew 65-29, 70-9, 35-43, 40-53, 50-49.

Meanwhile, the tournament’s highest break is still being held by Khor Soon Mun, breaking at 66 points during the match against Bryan Tsen on Thursday.

The tournament’s highest break were previously held by Frankie Kok (82 points in 2007), Jumaidi Juhin (55 points in 2009), Teo Kin Vui (48 points 2011, 48 points in 2014) and Sheldon (80 points in 2016).

The tournament’s final will be played on tomorrow at 2pm.

The tournament’s former champions are Sheldon (2016), Teo Kin Vui (2014), Louis Yap (2011) Jumaidi Juhin (2009) and Low Yew Keat (2007).

The champion will receive RM3,000 cash plus trophy, runner-up RM1,500 plus trophy, semi-finalists RM750 plus trophy, quarter-finalists RM350 plus medal, highest break (minimum 70 points) RM500 plus trophy and highest century break RM1,000.
