KOTA KINABALU: Kudat Tug-of-War Association, led by Kudat Power, played a role in helping to promote thalassemia awareness by organising the Kudat Closed Tug-of-War Competition, which was held at the Kudat district field recently.
“The competition, which involved teams from Kudat, was held successfully. More importantly, it became a platform to promote awareness on thalassemia to the public.
“The competition as among the various programmes held during the Campaign on Thalassemia Awareness in the sub-district of Matunggong. And we also held a blood donation campaign in line with the awareness programme,” said organising committee member Josmin Manganjil when met here yesterday.
Also on hand to help the programme succeed were the Kudat Health Department and SK Lotong, he revealed.
Meanwhile, Kota Marudu emerged as the winner of the tug-of-war competition, while Kg Lotong was runner-up followed by Tinangol in third and its junior team in fourth.
“It was just a small competition but turned out to become the main attraction. We are delighted to have been part of the programme. While competing, there was an opportunity to donate.
“I think the two-in-one programme achieved its objective successfully and that the Kudat Tug-of-War Association welcomes such programmes and will be ready to give its cooperation again in future,” Josmin said.
For the record, Kudat is among the powerhouse districts for tug-of-war in the state.
