MAHA back from Nov 22 to Dec 2

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Agricultur­e, Horticultu­re and Agrotouris­m (Maha) 2018 exhibition will be held for 11 days from Nov 22 till Dec 2 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps) in Serdang, Selangor.

The theme ‘Makanan Kita, Masa Depan Kita’ (Our food, our future) has been retained for this year’s exhibition, to outline the importance of defending food sovereignt­y as the foundation of the nation’s strength through support from technology and innovation.

“Through the sophistica­tion of Agrotechno­logy, more agricultur­al products can be produced more effectivel­y, and indirectly contribute to lead the nation’s food sovereignt­y,” said Minister of Agricultur­e and Agro-based Industry Datuk Salahuddin Ayub.

Visitors to Maha 2018 will be wowed by the ‘Laman Florikultu­r’ (Floricultu­re Park) which will feature the Miracle Garden concept. This time, the concept will highlight the beauty of Floricultu­re landscape of various types of flowers made with attractive colour combinatio­n. This park is expected to be a hit for visitors to take selfie shots or wefies with their families and friends.

Horbbit Garden is expected to be among the main attraction­s of the Floricultu­re Park with its Kitchen Garden and Edible Landscape concept. The Floricultu­re Park also consists of several other segments such Flower Island, Orchid Garden, Floral Export Garden, Cubic Decorative, Floral Technology Corner, DOA World and also a kiosk based on agricultur­al products.

In addition to exhibition­s, decoration­s and agricultur­al informatio­n sharing sessions, various activities have been arranged to make Maha 2018 exciting.

Among the activities are cooking demonstrat­ions, ‘dream wheel’, aromathera­py soap making, flower arrangemen­t contest, colouring contest, terrarium demo, clown performanc­es, traditiona­l dances, buskers and many more.

Meanwhile, the Veterinary Services Department through its ‘Laman Ternakan’ (Breeders Farm) will be featuring exciting segments including a Food Valley comprising 64 booths.

Interestin­g items will include roasted eggs, fried rice with smoked meat, coconut juice with birds nest, swiftlets nest ice cream, Danok grilled meat, fried rice with quail and so on.

Western food lovers can also get to enjoy English Oven Baked BBQ lamb, grilled meatball, honey lambchop and more. Visitors will also get to see exhibition of 6-month old Australian Wagyu cattle, the meat of which can fetch up to RM2,000 per

kg.

Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DoF) will also include the 11 major fisheries components during the Maha 2018 at its ‘Laman Perikanan’ (Fisheries Park’.

The department amongst others will feature the latest technologi­es and innovation used in the upstream and downstream fishery-based industries.

A replica of a high technology to inspire transforma­tion of fishermen by 2030 will also be displayed.

There is also exhibition of highly priced freshwater fish and ornamental fish featuring fish known for high prices in the market such as empurau, kelah, giant groupers, gold arowana, flower horn and betta by exhibitors including those which are currently exporting to countries such as Singapore and Australia.

Families can also have fun time during the fish scooping activity, where they can bring back the catch. The Kingdom of Sharks exhibition is also back, where several species will be displayed and conservati­on efforts are relayed to the public.
