Five drug users among 27 held in anti-crime operation

KOTA KINABALU: Police roped in 27 people, including five whose urine tested positive for syabu, in an anti-crime operation in the state capital on Saturday.

According to District Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji, the operation was conducted at six locations with the assistance of the General Operations Force, City Hall, Immigratio­n Department, National Registrati­on Department, Civil Defence Corp and Sabah Electricit­y Sdn Bhd (SESB) to disconnect illegal power supply to squatter colonies.

He said that the operation from 2pm to 10pm focused on areas where the number of illegal immigrants had increased.

“Five of those detained were drug users and the remaining 22 are illegal immigrants aged between 14 and 55 years old,” he said, adding that the suspects would be investigat­ed under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Police will continue with their operations and welcome public cooperatio­n in efforts to combat crime, the drug menace, presence of illegal immigrants and social ills in the district, he stressed.
