SHAH ALAM: Police have confirmed a device found on top of a table at Kuala Selangor Indoor Stadium which is the voting premises for 2018 Kuala Selangor PKR division election is a gadget which jams telecommunication signals (Jammer).

Kuala Selangor police chief Supt Md Asri A Wahab said investigation on the device revealed it was a ‘Mobile Phone Jammer 6 Antennas’.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for sabotage which carries a jail term of not less than one year and not exceeding five years or fine or both if found guilty,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Earlier police received a reported by Kuala Selangor PKR Youth Head R. Sabahbathi at Kuala Selangor police station at about 2pm on the discovery.

According to Md Asri, the jammer was found in the seating area in the stadium by a Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS) cleaner after the Kuala Selangor PKR division election scheduled yesterday was postponed as there was no telecommunication signal.

The new date for the division election will be decided later by the Central Election Committee (JPP).

In this regard, Kuala Selangor PKR division head Juwairiya Zulkifli when contacted, did not rule out the device was placed as an attempt to reduce the percentage of turnout.

“When a postponement occurs, the percentage of votes will fall as voters are disappointed, thus lowering the number of votes received by both PKR deputy president, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Mohd Rafizi Ramli.

“I hope party supporters and members will remain calm and continue to support the party,” he said.

Meanwhile in SHAH ALAM, the PKR JPP was disappointed with the allegation of an attempt to sabotage Kuala Selangor division election by using an internet jammer which disrupted internet signals when the election is taking place.

Its chairman, Datuk Rashid Din said the device jammed up internet and e-voting could not proceed.

“Thus, JPP postponed Kuala Selangor division election at 12 noon,” he told Bernama yesterday.

He however did not mention a new date for the division’s election. - Bernama
