Woman claims trial to disposing stolen jewellery

KOTA KINABALU: A woman charged with two counts of disposing stolen jewellery claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Hanizah Abd Momin, 23, who appeared before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code. The indictment provides for a jail term of up to seven years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

On the first count, the accused was alleged to have disposed a bracelet, a necklace and a pendant belonging to a 34year-old woman at a goldsmith shop at Pekan Telipok near Manggatal at 3.15 pm on October 24.

On the second count, Hanizah was alleged to have disposed another two bracelets belonging to the same woman at another goldsmith shop in the city at 4.30 pm on the same day.

The court fixed November 14 for case management and released the accused on RM4,000 bail with two local sureties for each charge.
