Alleged molest case politically motivated – Shahidan
KUALA LUMPUR: Arau member of parliament Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim revealed yesterday that the police had called him up over the alleged molest of an underage girl and did not dismiss the possibility that his political adversaries had a hand in the accusation.
“I cooperated well with the police. I hope all quarters will not keep harping on this matter because it affects the dignity of the girl,” he said at a press conference at Parliament House.
The former minister in the prime minister’s department expressed regret that the social media gone viral the matter, even after the girl’s family had retracted a police report.
“I was wondering why the matter went viral on social media. The family has retracted the police report, but it was you (the social media) who exposed the matter.
“It is regrettable that the case involves a child and her photograph and identity card were revealed. I pity the girl because it has nothing to do with her,” Shahidan said, and asked all quarters to stop circulating the matter on social media.
The former menteri besar of Perlis did not rule out the possibility that the matter was politically motivated.
“As a politician, I have to face all kinds of things from my political adversaries, but I am willing to face them,” he said.
Shahidan said he will discuss with his lawyers whether to sue those who have circulated the matter.
