Grab driver among four burglary suspects arrested
PENAMPANG: A Grab driver was among a gang of four suspected thieves arrested by the police for several housebreaking cases around Cybercity in Penampang.
Penampang police chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the suspects, in their 20s and known as Gang Wan, were apprehended by the police in two separate raids on Tuesday.
“A Grab driver and an unemployed man were apprehended by a police CID team at an unnumbered house in Penampang at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday. Following the first arrest, police detained two other gang members near the area a couple of minutes later,” he disclosed at a press press conference.
Mohd Haris said investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in several housebreaking cases in Penampang. Police have also recovered some of the stolen items. The suspects have been remanded to facilitate police investigation.
Meanwhile, a foreign man was detained by the police on suspicion of involvement in illicit drug activity.
Mohd Haris said a narcotics police team found a packet of crystal-like substance, believed to be syabu, on the 29-year-old suspect when he was arrested on October 29.
“The suspect was in possession of 50.5 grams of syabu with a street value of around RM7,575,” said Haris.
The suspect has since been remanded and the case will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
