RM1.5 million worth of smuggled, stolen goods seized

KUCHING: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) in collaborat­ion with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have seized RM1.5 million worth of smuggled and stolen goods around Serikin, Bau near here from January to October this year.

Third Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier-General Mohd Bustaman Mat Zin said among the seized items were 21 motorcycle­s, 10 different types of vehicles, two firearms, mobile phones (22) as well as controlled items including 800 cartons of sausages, 39 packets of Milo, 15 trays of eggs and 57 bags of garlic.

“With the completion of the constructi­on of the Pan Borneo Highway, cross-border smuggling activities in the state are likely to increase.”

“Hence, I welcome the Customs department’s proposal to build security posts and to tighten the security in certain areas to monitor the illegal activities,” he said.

He said this when he officiated at the parade held in conjunctio­n with the 59th anniversar­y of the Third Infantry Brigade, participat­ed by 28 officers and 380 personnel of different ranks here yesterday.

Bustaman also called on all Third Infantry Brigade personnel to jointly defend the sovereignt­y of the country and Sarawak.

He also emphasised the importance of the brotherhoo­d relationsh­ip while on duty by exhibiting superior quality discipline­s when carrying out collaborat­ion with the troops from neighbouri­ng countries.
