KUALA LUMPUR: The newlylaunched national policy on Industry 4.0, Industry4WRD, is expected to increase the level of productivity in the manufacturing industry per person by 30 per cent from RM106,647 by 2025.

In a statement, the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) said the policy was targeted to elevate the absolute contribution of the manufacturing sector to the economy to RM392 billion from RM254 billion, at present.

Besides, MITI said the national policy would strengthen Malaysia’s innovation capacity and capability as reflected by improvement in the Global Innovation Index ranking to top 30th from 35th and increase the number of high-skilled workers in the manufacturing sector to 35 per cent from 18 per cent.

“Industry4WRD is Malaysia’s response to the call for digital transformation of the manufacturing sector and its related services by facilitating companies to embrace Industry 4.0 in a systematic and comprehensive manner, and be smarter and stronger, driven by people, process and technology.

“This policy envisions Malaysia as a strategic partner for smart manufacturing, primary destination for high-technology industries and total solution provider for the manufacturing sector and related services in the region,” MITI said.

The government has also developed the Industry4WRD Readiness Assessment Programme to enable businesses assess where they are, what are the current gaps existing in their manufacturing line and how they can move into Industry 4.0 through targeted intervention of experienced assessors.

MITI has led the development of Industry4WRD since mid2017 together with several key ministries, namely the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Multimedia and Communications, Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, agencies, industry and stakeholders. — Bernama
