Tackling corruption way forward for Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's corruption eradication efforts led by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the way forward in boosting public trust in the country's administration, said Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission Director of Education and Public Services Giri Suprapdiono.
Giri noted that Malaysia has been serious in taking stern action against corruption since the Pakatan Harapan coalition led by Dr Mahathir took over Putrajaya in May.
"I think this is a golden time for Malaysia to fight corruption and, by giving more adequate law and adequate resources, I think Malaysia will be much better in the future," he told Bernama when met after the Anti-Corruption Summit concluded here on Tuesday.
Giri also said that Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have established good cooperation, especially in intelligence sharing.
"We are also learning from Malaysia in fighting corruption. The situation and law between Malaysia and Indonesia are different but we are on one mission, which is to fight corruption," said Giri who has more than 10 years' experience in dealing with global and domestic corruption.
He said Indonesia's position in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) last year indicated it still has a long way to go in tackling corruption.
