Call for fresh Tawau PKR election
TAWAU: Subang MP Wong Chen and former Kapar MP Manivannan s/o Gowindasamy have expressed their misgivings over compliance with procedures and regulations in the Tawau PKR election held at Sri Tawau hall here on Sunday.
They suggested that a reelection should be held so that an impartial outcome could emerge, but this would depend on the Central Electoral Committee’s (JPP) final decision.
Wong said the Tawau PKR election could be considered as null and void as many problems that arose and many procedures were not being attended to or complied with appropriately.
He said he felt sorry for the many candidates who had spent a lot of time, money and energy for this election.
“My suggestion is to have a re-election as the one held did not comply with the standard regulations and procedures.
“This decision, however, will have to be decided by the Central Electoral Committee in Kuala Lumpur.
“They have taken a lot of photographs and videos as evidence.
“Many members came out to vote on that day but, unfortunately, did not have any idea as to who is the ‘actual winner’ as many procedures were not complied with,” he told media representatives.
As a reformation political party (PKR), Manivannan noted that there is a dire need for the party to be seen to do the right things which is their principle, and if some things were wrong, they should appeal to the Central Electoral Committee by giving reasons and evidence to call for a reelection.
“This is what we expect but we would still respect the decision of the Central Electoral Committee,” he added.
